mike-v-portraitMike Vertal is a certified personal trainer and group exercise instructor through the National Exercise Trainers Association, and carries a CPR/AED certification through the American Heart Association.

After four years of studying in the scientific scope of nutrition and dietetics at West Virginia University, Mike moved back to the Cleveland area and is currently finishing a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree at Cleveland State University. He was a four year varsity wrestler at St. Edward High School where he competed year round including summer events at Disney Duels and Fargo freestyle Nationals with the Ohio National Team. Wrestling became a sports priority early on when Joe Butler was introduced as the head coach of Mike’s grade school team. This was also the time period when he was introduced to the benefits of resistance training under the tutelage of Joe. From sixth grade to senior year, Mike experienced the expertise of the Prescription Fitness team where the knowledge of sports specific training and the power of individualized goal setting helped push him to reach his personal and athletic potential.

With this background and a passion to help others, Mike enjoys personal training to nurture people towards their goals through fitness education and individual empowerment. He firmly believes that the approaches taken by Joe and his team are simply the best methods to find fun and success in physical fitness.

In his spare time, Mike enjoys coaching youth wrestling and outdoor activities such as mountain biking, backpacking, and OCR races. Lifting is a joy and catharsis he has not left behind, and still avidly trains in the gym to satisfy personal goals and live a healthy life.
