It can be easy to get confused with all of the conflicting opinions about dieting and nutrition. And let’s face it, it’s hard to have a consistent nutrition program with all of the temptations available. It is one of the most challenging things to control when adopting a healthy lifestyle. However, with a hard work ethic and dedication along with some helpful tips from us at Prescription Fitness, a consistent nutritional lifestyle can be achieved. Below will be some nutritional tips we encourage you to follow.

1. Stay Hydrated-
Hydration is often an overlooked part of everyone’s daily life and yet it may be the most important. Staying hydrated ensures that the body functions normally while contributing too many health benefits. These benefits can include; improved brain performance, increased energy, weight loss management, regulation of body temperature and many many more. It is recommended to drink eight 8 ounce glasses of water or about 2 liters of water per day. Drinking an adequate amount of water a day will provide numerous health benefits and should
be a staple in every nutrition program.

2. Avoid Sugary Drinks
Sugary drinks can include; sodas, fruit juice and sweetened teas. These drinks are extremely popular within the American diet but lead to an increased risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. In addition, excessive increases in sugar intake can cause weight gain in many individuals. As you can see there are many negatives that go along with sugary drinks with hardly any advantages. Avoid at all costs!

3. Don’t be afraid of Coffee
Despite some controversy, coffee has many health benefits. Coffee is rich in antioxidants and have been known to reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, and numerous other illnesses. However, it is suggested to keep your coffee intake to under 4 cups a day. So while coffee has had mixed reviews in the past, there are a number of health benefits if drank in moderation.

4. Avoid Ultra Processed Foods
Ultra- processed foods are foods containing ingredients that are significantly modified from their original form. They will often contain additives such as sugar, refined oil, salt, artificial sweeteners or preservatives. Ultra processed foods are often overeaten because of either their added sugary/fattening taste or convince from fast food restaurants. Excess intake will lead to weight gain in addition to heart problems.

5. Limit Alcohol Intake
Now it may not be a secret that alcohol isn’t particularly good for you especially in excessive amounts. Alcohol can have some health benefits in small amounts, but is very harmful if you drink too much. Excessive alcohol has been linked to obesity and weight gain among other things. If you are serious about adopting a healthy lifestyle limiting your alcohol intake is critically important especially if your goal is to loose weight.

Above are only a few tips to consider when trying to live a healthy lifestyle and a balanced nutritional diet. Keeping track of your consumptions will help in evaluating your diet.
