Northeast Ohio Athletes at the 2026 Winter Olympics

The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina are underway, and athletes with ties to Northeast Ohio are competing on the world’s biggest winter sports stage right now. From ice hockey to snowboarding and freestyle skiing, our region is well represented this month in Italy.

Here’s a look at the Northeast Ohio athletes competing, where they’re from, what they’re competing in, and how to follow their events as the games continue.

Laila Edwards

From: Cleveland Heights, Ohio

Sport: Women’s Ice Hockey

When to watch: Team USA’s women’s hockey preliminary games are scheduled for February 5, 7, 9, and 10. If they advance, playoff and medal-round games follow, including a quarterfinal on February 13, semifinal on February 16, the bronze-medal game on February 19, and the gold-medal game later that week. Laila Edwards is making history at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics as the first Black woman to compete in Olympic ice hockey for Team USA. A standout at the University of Wisconsin, where she helped win multiple national championships and led the nation in goals, she has also won gold and silver at World Championships and brings elite offensive and defensive skill to the U.S. roster.

Red Gerard

From: Rocky River, Ohio

Sport: Snowboarding

When to watch: Red Gerard competes in men’s snowboard slopestyle qualification on February 16, followed by the slopestyle final on February 18. You can check the official Olympics schedule and results for exact start times and updates as results are posted.

Red Gerard is one of the most recognizable names in U.S. snowboarding and an Olympic gold medalist, having won slopestyle at the 2018 Winter Olympics at just 17 years old. A Rocky River native, Gerard returns to the Olympic stage in Milano Cortina bringing experience, creativity, and consistency to Team USA, and remains a strong contender in slopestyle competition.

Kyra Dossa

From: Brecksville/Broadview Heights, Ohio

Sport: Freestyle Skiing (Aerials)

When to watch: Kyra Dossa competes in women’s freestyle aerials qualification on February 17, followed by the aerials final on February 18. You can check the official Olympics schedule and results for exact start times and updates as results are posted.

Kyra Dossa’s path to the Olympics began in gymnastics before she transitioned to aerial skiing as a teenager after a family ski trip. A Northeast Ohio native who first learned to ski at Boston Mills, Dossa worked her way through the U.S. Ski Team pipeline and earned her Olympic spot in Milano Cortina. She brings power, precision, and consistency to Team USA’s aerials team.

Derek Krueger

From: Chagrin Falls, Ohio

Sport: Freestyle Skiing (Aerials)

When to watch: Derek Krueger competes in men’s freestyle aerials qualification on February 17, followed by the aerials final on February 19. You can check the official Olympics schedule and results for exact start times and updates as results are posted.

Derek Krueger is a Northeast Ohio native who has worked his way onto the U.S. Ski Team through years of international competition in freestyle aerials. Originally from Chagrin Falls, Krueger has competed at the world championship level and brings experience, consistency, and technical skill to Team USA’s aerials team.

J.T. Miller

From: East Palestine, Ohio

Sport: Men’s Ice Hockey

When to watch: Team USA’s men’s hockey preliminary games are scheduled for February 12, 14, and 15. If they advance, playoff and medal-round games follow, including a playoff round on February 17, quarterfinal on February 18, semifinal on February 20, the bronze-medal game on February 21, and the gold-medal game on February 22. J.T. Miller brings veteran NHL experience to Team USA’s men’s hockey roster. Originally from East Palestine, Ohio, Miller has developed into one of the league’s top two-way forwards and now competes on the Olympic stage in Milano Cortina. Known for his strength, skill, and leadership, he plays a key role for Team USA as they compete through group play and into the medal rounds.
