Getting His Edge Back at 58: Dan’s Fitness Journey

Dan's Fitness Journey With Tom

Like a lot of people, Dan reached a point where he wanted to get back in better shape and feel more like himself again. For him, that meant getting stronger and getting back to playing volleyball at a higher level after feeling like he had lost his edge.

After connecting with the team at Prescription Fitness, he decided to take that first step and start building a routine that worked for him. Like many, knowing what to do and actually doing it are two different things, but having structure and accountability made it easier to get started.

At first, he was coming in once a week, but over time that consistency started to build. “It became a habit,” he said. “Then I started working out on my own too.” That shift from occasional workouts to a consistent routine made all the difference.

Building Strength, Consistency, and Confidence

As Dan started training, he first began working with Joe, who helped him build the foundation and get back into a consistent routine. As he progressed, he transitioned to working with Tom, who continued working with him and helping him stay consistent.

With guidance, accountability, and a structured plan, Dan became more diligent in the gym, not just during sessions but on his own as well. “Tom keeps me accountable, checks up on me, and makes sure I’m doing what I need to do,” Dan said.

And the results did not stay in the gym. Now, at 58 years old, Dan is back to playing volleyball at a high level.

“I play against guys half my age,” he said. “A lot of them cannot believe I’m 58.”

Taking the Next Step

Even with a consistent routine, Dan noticed something many people experience. Progress in the gym does not always mean progress on the scale. “I stepped on the scale and saw I was overweight,” he said. “I had a hard time losing that 10 to 15 pounds.”

That is when he decided to take the next step. Along with continuing his training at Prescription Fitness, Dan began working with Butler Wellness Group to support his progress, especially when it came to reducing cravings and improving consistency with nutrition.

Within the first few months, the changes were clear. “I’ve lost about 12 to 13 pounds so far,” he said. Even more importantly, his body composition improved, allowing him to lose fat while maintaining muscle.

Real Results That Go Beyond the Scale

For Dan, the goal was never just about weight. “I want to keep my muscle and keep cutting body fat,” he said.

That focus on body composition, not just the number on the scale, helped him make meaningful progress. Through consistent strength training, he was able to maintain muscle while improving strength and endurance.

Instead of just trying to lose weight, Dan built a routine that supports long-term results and allows him to continue progressing both in and out of the gym.

Like many clients, once he started seeing those changes, it reinforced everything he had been building through training. “It was worth it,” he said.

More Than Just a Workout

Dan’s journey is a great example of what happens when consistency, accountability, and a structured strength training program come together. What started as a simple commitment to get back on track turned into a routine focused on building strength, improving performance, and staying active.

That consistency has translated into how he moves and performs outside of the gym. After feeling like he had lost his edge, Dan is now stronger, more conditioned, and able to keep up in the activities he enjoys.

Through training, he has not only improved how he looks, but how he moves, performs, and competes, which is what has helped him get his edge back.
