When Julie Kelsheimer retired from teaching, she wanted to get in shape for her son’s wedding. She tried on her own — running and doing workout classes — but nagging injuries and stalled progress left her frustrated. That’s when her husband suggested a personal trainer, and it turned out to be the perfect gift.
“I was hesitant at first,” Julie admits. “I thought I could do it myself, but I realized I wasn’t making progress. I couldn’t do a proper lunge or pushup, and I needed someone to guide me.”
Julie reached out to Prescription Fitness, a place her family had trusted for years. She was paired with certified personal trainer Ed Eismont, who quickly saw her potential.
“Julie shows up and is always open to new challenges,” Ed shares. “She tells me when she feels ready to lift more, and her dedication is incredible.”
The Power of Consistency and Grit
Julie committed to training three times a week, building strength step by step. She lost 15 pounds, and her yearly physical showed improved blood pressure and other health markers. More importantly, she started feeling better in her everyday life.
“I have more energy, my knees don’t hurt going up the stairs, and I don’t get that winter slump like I used to,” Julie says. “It’s helped my mental health, too.”
Her motivation to continue on her personal training journey? Her new grandbaby.
“I want to be healthy and strong so I can keep up with him as he grows,” she says. “That keeps me going, even on the tough days.”
Advice for Newcomers: Trust the Process
Julie encourages anyone considering personal training to stick with it.
“Don’t give up after a month if you don’t see results,” she advises. “It takes time to undo years of bad habits, but every little improvement adds up. And having a set schedule makes all the difference — once it’s on the books, you just show up.”
Her story is a powerful reminder that fitness is a lifelong journey, and with patience, persistence, and the right support, transformation is inevitable.
Congratulations, Julie, on being our February MVP — your strength and determination inspire us all!
